how does your media product represent PARTICULAR social groups?
Our OTS represents people from two different social groups. These groups are the working class and authority figures. The authority group is represented by the military officer, who is the antagonist in our OTS. This group is shown as being in power, but they are also displayed as being corrupt, as the soldier is representing the evil in our media product. The other group that we represent is the working class. We show this social group as being weak as the cleaner is clearly scared of the officer, but he does not stand up to his fear, he simply runs away, displaying his weakness.
Working class
The working class group would be represented by the fact that the character is wearing casual clothing. Another factor that suggests he is working class is due to the fact that he is cleaning in the school, which is a stereotypical working class job. This tells us that that he has a working class job as a caretaker/janitor in a school. As he is an average person it can really help the audience relate to the character and make the OTS more believable. |
Terrorist group
This group is represented by the fact that the antagonist had captured the protagonist and is then seen physically harming the protagonist, this shows a sense of harm/torture. This is a similar kind of thing that would stereotypically happen to someone caught by a terrorist. This can also be seen through the fact of what the antagonist is wearing, revealing that he could be an eastern European terrorist. This then represents the social group of eastern European terrorists. |
Insecure mental disabilities
This is shown through the fact that the protagonist is paranoid about his memories and is scared of what he is seeing. This is shown through the shots where the antagonist is seen which is making the protagonist insecure even though a school is meant to be seen as a safe place. His mental disabilities are seen through the fact that he is seeing things which are making him paranoid and insecure over something which really isn't there. |
