Lighting
We only used natural lighting in the making of our product, with the exception of the lighter and torch at the end. The reason that we used natural lighting is because it was in a school, and a school is seen as a secure place. The fact that we used natural lighting shows that it's just an ordinary school which would seem to be safe and the lighting suggests there is nothing out of the ordinary.
Whilst in the D&T block, the protagonist only has a torch to look around with as the lights aren't on. This builds tension as the audience don't know what is going to appear or pop up, as this is expected from a scene like this in horror films. We chose to use the lighter at the end so as to only have a little bit of dim light to illuminate the face of the antagonist. This light was only on for about 1 second, which was enough time for the audience to see the killer, but so little time as to make an effective jump scare. |
sound
We used different pieces of royalty free music from youtube in our OTS. To make it unique we overlaid the three different tracks, creating a unique piece which (in different parts of the opening title sequence) becomes heavier and therefore increases the horror atmosphere. This is because it sounds darker and drones creating a feeling of tension and fear.
We have used sound in a way that allows tension and fear to be formed in our opening title sequence. The sound first starts to build up about a minute of the way through, which is where the protagonist first notices the antagonist. The sound/music builds up because it shows that the protagonist seems provoked and scared. This shows that the sound is used to build up the tension in these scenes. At the end of our OTS we decided to fade the music out so that it was silent for when the antagonist blows out the flame. As the visual goes black, the only sound to be heard is the protagonist's scream. This, once again, helps to create tension as the audience doesn't know what happened to the main character.
